10 Most Famous Celebrity Stoners

Many conscientious weed smokers would put Snoop Dogg and Lady Gaga at the top of their celebrity stoners list. While we will give an honorable high five to both of these weed legends below they are certainly not alone when it comes to using and promoting the wonderful world of weed.

Blunts and Flavored Papers

Back in the 1980s, when you wanted to smoke weed, it was always via joints, bongs, or other homemade water-based smoking devices, pipes, and contraptions. There weren’t many brands of rolling papers at the time, and there were no blunts or flavored papers whatsoever. We managed to get by, but in the rapidly changing commercial cannabis market of today, the choice of blunts and flavored papers is simply astounding.

The 10 most famous celebrity stoners listed below could be stretched far further but we think these wicked weed lovers take some beating:

#1 – B-Real

The Cypress Hill gang surely enjoys their ganja, but frontman B-Real has to be the real deal when it comes to celebrity stoners. Take a listen to some of his songs such as “Hits from the Bong”, “I Want to Get High”, “Reefer Man”, and “Dr. Greenthumb”.

Not satisfied with wearing ganja-leaf gear and writing some cracking weed tunes, B-Real also hosts his podcast; “The Smokebox”.

This features B-Real and his epic collection of customized low-riders. In each episode, B-Real and his latest guest are closed up in the Smokebox and rip it up! It is well worth tuning in to see who tunes out first!

#2 – Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle has made a name for himself starring in movies and television shows. Couple that with his hilarious, often controversial satirical stand-up comedy sketch series ‘Chappelle’s Show’, and it has to put him right up there as one of the funniest performers treading the boards.

If proof of his talents were needed this can be seen in some of the prestigious awards he has already won. That includes Emmys, Grammys, and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

So, why does Chappelle deserve a mention in the celebrity stoners list? Because he continuously works hilarious and true-to-life weed references into his routine. If you are after a good giggle session while relaxing with a joint or two check out reruns of his standup shows. Better still, dig out the 1998 movie “Half Baked” for a stoner movie session to remember.

#3 – Doug Benson

When it comes to the most active entertainer in the celebrity stoners community Doug Benson takes some beating. He weaves some classic weed humor into his stand-up routines and his shows have many doubled up with laughter.

Benson has long been associated with weed culture. As far back as 2007 he released a documentary called “Super High Me”. This was about him abstaining from weed for 30 days and then smoking it constantly for the same period. As well as laughs along the way there are some pretty interesting facts about California laws, the history of weed, and different ways of getting high (get the lip balm out!).

More recently (2013-2020) Benson hosted a web series; “Getting Doug with High”. This ‘talk show’ invited guests to smoke and discuss their relationship with weed as well as displaying various smoking devices.

In between that series (2017), he created a 20-episode reality courtroom show called “The High Court” where Benson as the judge and a guest “bailiff” listen to a case and then retires to smoke a Bong before giving his verdict. Our verdict? Doug is right up there with the biggest celebrity stoners out there.

#4 – Rihanna

Listen to her tunes, and swipe her Instagram page, both will reveal Rihanna’s love of weed. That should come as no surprise as this stunning Barbadian has regularly been captured smoking ganja as well as wearing cool weed-leaf-adorned clothes.

She attended a Halloween event dressed as “The Bride of Mary Jane” and was famously captured rolling a pretty neat blunt on her bodyguard’s head at a Coachella Festival.

Rihanna is one of the best-selling artists of all time and has had a long love of weed. Check out her 6th studio album – “Talk That Talk” to see the cover art of her puffing. You can also dig back to her 2011 European tour to find she spent time ‘relaxing’ at the famous Bulldog Cafe in Amsterdam, Holland.

This Grammy award winner takes ganja enjoyment seriously!

#5 – Snoop Dogg

Close your eyes, pick a Snoop Dogg tune and there will likely be a mention of herb in the lyrics. Snoop Dogg is a card-carrying medical marijuana man who loves his green.

Open your eyes, check out photos of him and you will rarely see this class rapper without a joint, blunt, or, (at the very least), red, glassy eyes!

Over the years Snoop Dogg has stuck to his weed principles. This has led to him being busted for possession in countries that have still not woken up to the benefits of legalizing cannabis.

But behind his love of quality herbs is also a business head that shows just how the cannabis industry is mushrooming. As far back as 2015 he launched Merry Jane (a marijuana-focused digital media business), invested in Eaze (a cannabis delivery service), and introduced Leafs by Snoop (his brand of weed products) to the growing cannabis marketplace.

As well as being one of the most active celebrity stoners Snoop Dogg is also helping to pave the way to give wider weed access to all.

#6 – Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga (aka Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) is right at the top of the celebrity stoner tree. Back in the day, she admitted during an interview to smoking between 15-20 pure ganja joints a day.

While that was partly to relieve the chronic pain of fibromyalgia (similar to Morgan Freeman who will be mentioned later) it is clear weed also helped her in a creative sense.

As another member of the most successful female artists of all time, Lady Gaga has no qualms about promoting the creative and medicinal benefits of weed. Her superb lyrics, as well as stage performances, are surely a testament to just how beneficial weed can be to both mind and body wellness.

#7 – Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson may be getting on in years but he is still a renowned celebrity stoner. With nicknames such as the Godfather of Grass and the Ruler of All Reefers his legendary weed consumption is hard to beat.

No matter what style of music you love, your hat must be taken off to this iconic country musician. Nelson started puffing when he was around 19 and although he is now well into his 80’s he still has a toke every day.

More than that though, he is an active weed campaigner. As well as being an advocate for legalization, Nelson is co-chair of NORML (“National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws”) advisory board.

Other notable weed strings to his bow include a book he wrote titled “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die”, and he created the TeaPot political party. On top of all this weed involvement, Nelson has also established his very own cannabis brand; Willie’s Reserve.

If further proof were needed of Nelson’s legendary smoking ability then wind back to 2017. That was when top toker Snoop Dogg admitted to Vibe that only one person had been able to out-smoke him and that was Willie Nelson. Surely that is the mark of a truly legendary celebrity stoner.

#8 – Morgan Freeman

Born in 1937 means Morgan Freeman is no junior when it comes to surprising celebrity stoners. However, this highly respected actor has been advocating cannabis legalization for many a year.

His need and belief in the healing power of weed intensified in 2008 after he was involved in a serious car accident. Freeman was left with a broken shoulder, arm, and elbow that needed 4 hours of surgery to repair nerve damage.

To this day he still suffers from chronic pain and is a regular user of medical marijuana. As far back as 2015 he explained to The Daily Beast “I have fibromyalgia pain and will eat, drink, smoke, or snort weed as it is the only thing that gives some relief to my pain.”

#9 – Jhene Aiko

A true Californian girl, Jhene Aiko shows her love of weed with some cracking marijuana anthems. Check out “Sativa” and “Tryna Smoke”. Jhene is proud to acknowledge she puffs the good stuff as it gives her positive vibes, helps her creativity, and reduces the stress that comes with the life of a top artist.

Aiko is a singer/songwriter who is proud to express her love of weed and during the Weedmaps 4/20 celebration in 2021, she graced the stage and took some mighty bong rips while up there!

With her love of puff, Jhene has to be classed as a leading light in the celebrity stoner world.

#10 – Wiz Khalifa

If anyone could be rated as a challenger to Snoop Dogg as a top celebrity stoner then it must be Wiz Khalifa. You will rarely see him performing without billows of surrounding smoke.

Just about every tune mentions his love of weed. Check out his debut album “Rolling Papers”, and a classic mixtape “Kush and Orange Juice” among many other cool tracks.

Even more astonishing (and to the wonderment of most weed smokers), At one stage in his life, Wiz was reportedly burning his way through $10,000 worth of weed a month. Estimates put that at around 1 ounce per day!

While he is still an avid smoker, the cost of his ganja consumption is now far lighter on his wallet. That is thanks to his medical marijuana dispensary The Cookie Company which sells Khalifa Kush, a strain he personally developed.

Keen weed smokers should also check out one of his YouTube channels that sings the praise of weed, rolling, and smoking the glorious green.

Celebrity Stoners are not in Short Supply!

The above-mentioned celebrity stoners are just the tip of a growing iceberg. It is clear that for many artists and everyday people weed works wonders. As that old saying goes “Different strokes for different folks”. Find the strain(s) that do it for you and life becomes a far more relaxed place.
