Experimenting With Dosages: Part 1

Gummies…? I’ll Try Some Of Them!

The other day I decided to go to one of the local dispensaries near my home to sample what they had. My initial plan was to get myself a brownie and destroy it in one go, then worry about the repercussions later… However once I got to the shop the lady told me they were out of brownies.

Gummies…? I’ll Try Some Of Them!

The other day I decided to go to one of the local dispensaries near my home to sample what they had. My initial plan was to get myself a brownie and destroy it in one go, then worry about the repercussions later… However once I got to the shop the lady told me they were out of brownies.

The Doobie Newbie: Oh OK, so what do you have that I can take now?
Lady In Red: We don’t have any pre-rolled joints, as the law at the moment says we cannot have those. But I can roll one here for you for you to have.
The Doobie Newbie: Oh, that sounds… confusing…
Lady In Red: <Laughs> Yes, but if you like, we do have some gummies if you want to try them instead?

I told her that I don’t have a particularly high tolerance, but she was very helpful and told me these particular gummies had 2mgs of THC in them (which meant nothing to me, so obviously I grinned like an idiot, and nodded pretending I was definitely clued up about what that meant…), and she said take all five in the jar and I should be good to go.

I had a flashback from when I tried my first cookie and overestimated my capabilities, and decided to only have half her recommended dosage and go from there. In fact, it made perfect sense to try different dosages and see which one worked for me the most from a medical standpoint.

I’m admittedly not the most knowledgeable when it comes to Cannabis products, but I do know when I went to a dispensary that sold brownies to buy one for my friend; there was one gram in it and the assistant told me to take half. So seeing 2mgs written on the jar made me wonder whether I would end up going to 7/11 and be staring at the food like this:

New plan… Take just two and see how I feel. And DEFINITELY do not make the mistake I made last time saying after thirty minutes “I’m not feeling much, let’s take some more…”

After gulping down two I sat there and let the world absorb me. I almost instantly felt more relaxed, but that could have easily been a placebo effect so I didn’t pay too much attention to it. This led to about twenty minutes of me feeling far more zen, and unexpectedly being more productive. The stereotype is the opposite of that; so I was pleasantly surprised to find I was answering emails, writing notes for future jobs to be prepared for them and going out to buy things I needed for both work and my social life.

The last thing was a real eye opener for me. I’m traditionally an introvert. I prefer to stay at home wherever possible and have always assumed that was my personality. But after taking the gummies I felt the need to be more social and if anything I felt far more comfortable in the crowds. This already will be a huge game changer for the future.

However, despite those positives, what comes up must come down. And in my case my productivity went up and I felt far less anxious. But after a few hours I began to feel sleepy. As someone who struggles to sleep properly, I felt like Christmas was coming, and I couldn’t wait to get a nice, long sleep and be nice and refreshed the next morning.

Good news: I did fall asleep
Bad News: It was a little too good.

Granted I woke up in the middle of the night and was awake for a while. But I went back to sleep at about 5:00, hoping to get up again at 11 o’clock. Unfortunately for me I woke up feeling completely refreshed, but at 12:59. And you guessed it; I had an appointment at 1:00…

So for me this was the perfect dosage, but this post is about experimenting with dosages right…?

<proceeds to down 3 more gummies…>

I’m joking of course. As we established in previous posts; Cannabis is not alcohol and should not be treated in the same way. When alcohol is abused it tends to be used recreationally (for good and for bad!). However Cannabis when abused tends to have adverse effects than when used correctly. For example, Marijuana is a brilliant substance to use when you suffer from anxiety. But if you take way too much, it can counteract those calming feelings associated with Cannabis and a small percentage of people can have mild panic attacks. So Cannabis should NEVER be abused and you must stick to the correct dosage suitable for you.

This means I will do a part 2 for this post, and find out how one and two gummies (as two is clearly my personal limit for this particular brand of gummies) helps me function in day to day activities. Maybe while working, or doing some activities that require cognitive thinking. I have a novel that is currently in the process of being published, and I may experiment with dosages while in the headspace for that to see if that benefits the book structure as a whole. If it does, then I have another tick in the positive column for consuming Cannabis products to make my day to day life better as a whole.

What Lessons Did I Learn For Taking Gummies?

This one was nice and easy. I had the best sleep I have had in a long time, but I was late for an appointment the next day. So if you are doing this for the first time and suffer from insomnia, taking a couple of gummies is ideal for that, but not when you have things to do the next day in case you don’t hear your alarm.

Yes, I felt incredibly refreshed and energised, but I was late for my appointment. So make sure you have a free schedule the next day, get in the right mindset to be sociable and productive, then enjoy the best sleep you have had for a long time, as long as your schedule is clear. Then once you know what works specifically for you, then you can plan accordingly.
